In May 2022, the Institute for Planning, Design and Development of the Brčko District of BiH drafted the "Preliminary design of the bicycle path and promenade along the Sava River through the territory of the Brčko District of BiH." The implementation of the project of building a bicycle path and promenade along the Sava River will increase the competitiveness of the tourist offer in the Brcko District of BiH, through the affirmation and creation of conditions for the development of cycling as a form of sports and recreational activities, development of cycling tourism in the future to become part of the European network of bicycle routes EuroVelo (route along the Sava River in the length of about 1000 km, which will connect Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia).

The planned bicycle route through Brčko District of BiH will consist of projected bicycle paths / lanes and promenades, as well as all necessary accompanying facilities and infrastructure (catering facilities, lookouts, rest areas, bicycle parking lots, chargers for electric bicycles and other facilities).

The route is planned in a way that basically contains attractiveness and potentially interesting offer along the route, as well as the possibility of turning to interesting and attractive locations and contents, sites of natural and cultural-historical heritage in the Brcko District of BiH. All this will be an integral part of the tourist offer of Brčko District of BiH, through a list of tourist attractions to visit, marked with tourist signs to mark tourist routes, tourist destinations and attractions, which will be subject to detailed elaboration through the preparation of the next phases of project documentation).

Brief description of routes of variant solutions of bicycle routes
The conceptual design of the bicycle path and promenade along the Sava River through Brčko District of BiH envisages three variant solutions: Variant 1 and Variant 2: Bicycle routes are designed in the west-east direction, through settlements along the Sava River, from Vučilovac and Krepšić, Gorica, Grbavica, Mujkić, Kolobare, Srpske Varoš and the city center, Donji Brezik, Gredice, Trnjak, to Brezovo Polje. Variant 3: The bicycle route is designed in the west-east direction, passing through populated areas in the narrower and wider urban area along the Sava River, from Vučilovac and Krepšić, along the Brčko Bypass and again along the Sava River to Brezovo Polje.

One of the proposed and described variants does not exclude the other two variants of the bicycle route. It is possible to combine variants on the described sections, provided that the continuity of the bicycle route and combination with pedestrian paths ("Northern bicycle route along the Sava River" and "Southern bicycle route along the Bypass") is possible. Each of these routes is about 40 km long.

A brief description of the routes of variant solutions of the promenade
Along the bicycle routes, promenades along the Sava River are planned, as follows: in the zone of the picnic area Ficibajer in the length of 2700 m and in the zone of the picnic area Interplet on Stolin in the length of 1700 m.

Based on urban, technical and other conditions prescribed by the competent authorities of Brcko District of BiH, through further design phases (stages of development of Preliminary and Main Projects), the Institute will elaborate in detail the conditions for construction of bicycle and pedestrian areas with accompanying facilities and necessary infrastructure.
